This post has been long overdue. Last year I had the pleasure of working with this lovely couple on their Japanese themed wedding.
Lai-Yui first commissioned me to design the inserts for her wedding invitations. She loved the cherry blossom design I had done for a previous wedding.
The inserts were to go in an envelope that would be attached to a handmade origami invite, created by Lai-Yui. She sent me some pictures of them once they were complete. Aren't they beautiful. The detail of the cranes is stunning and each invite featured different coloured patterned paper.
Japanese paper cranes were a big feature in their wedding, all handmade by the bride and her family.
Next, I was delighted to be asked design their table plan to go with their Japanese themed wedding. The brief was a map of Japan with famous landmarks illustrated and marked on. Each of her wedding tables would be a Japanese landmark.
I began with a vector-based image of japan to work from and then illustrated each landmark.
The lists of guest's names were stuck on seperately, to create a 3-Dimensional effect and string attached them to the relevant landmarks. Cherry blossoms were also brought in to the design to tie in the invitations.
It was a really fun and challenging brief to work on and I loved tapping in to my drawing skills and illustrating the landmarks.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Man. I wish you a very happy future together as husband and wife and thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding preparations.
